Technology Lesson Plan

For my lesson plan, I followed the guidelines of ITIP. I am creating a lesson plan in the subject of English Language Arts for kindergarteners. The standard is that with prompting and support, the students should be able to ask and answer questions about key details in a text.

  1. Anticipatory Set– To get the interest of the students at the beginning of the lesson, I will show them a short, 3 minute video of the story we are going to read, The Three Little Pigs. This video will introduce the story to them and get them excited to read the book. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CtP83CWOMwc (I incorporated the use of technology into this step by watching the youtube video)
  2. Stating the Objective– After we watch the video, I will explain to the children that throughout this lesson, I will be stopping and asking them questions as well as asking them to ask me questions. I will explain that by the end of this lesson, they should be able to answer questions about the story.
  3. Instructional Input– During this step, the class will read the full, longer version of the story together. To incorporate the use of technology, we will be using the computer and an interactive book to read the story. https://www.education.com/game/three-little-pigs/
  4. Modeling– Now that we have read the story, I will model an example of the questions the students should be able to answer to them. The first model question will be: How many pigs are in the story? I will have a picture of the 3 little pigs on the board and will help the students count the pigs to get to the answer.
  5. Check for Understanding– In order to check that the students understood the story, before we begin to ask questions as modeled above, I will walk them through this activity using the smart board. This activity goes over the order of the events that happened in the story and include details of questions that can be asked to the students in the independent practice. https://www.education.com/game/three-little-pigs/
  6. Guided Practice– For the guided practice, I will put 3 multiple choice questions about the story on the board and will walk through them with the class. I will have the students walk me through each step instead of doing it myself like I did in step 4. The 5 questions I will ask are: What animal kept trying to blow over the houses? WOLF. What did the first pig build his house out of? STRAW. Were the pigs safe at the end of the story? YES.
  7. Independent Practice– For the independent practice, the students will complete a worksheet sequencing the events of the story as we did when we checked for understanding as a class. This worksheet helps make sure the children meet the objective because showing that they know the order of the story shows that they understand the story and the details in it. https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Fairy-Tale-3-Little-Pig-Sequencing-and-Sentence-Picture-Matching-3697255
  8. Evaluation– To end this lesson, we will review the worksheet and discuss the correct answers.

I used a lot of technology at the beginning of the lesson and began to lean away from it when it came time to practice the objective. The reason for this is because personally, I believe that I retain more information when I am writing on a worksheet than answering questions on a smart board.
