In the article, there are 5 rhetorical questions asked. I am going to put the questions below and summarize the answers to the questions that were answered in the article. Not all of the questions were answered in the article because some of them are rhetorical questions that are meant to get the reader thinking.
- Is there some truth in his argument? The article argues that there is most likely truth to the argument that laptops in the classroom are distracting and not beneficial. There was a point in which everyone thought that laptops and interactive whiteboards would significantly impact education and become the “silver education bullet,” but that has not yet happened.
- Well, you might ask, if you’re not answering those questions, what’s the point of this post? The article stresses that discussing whether technology should have a place in the classroom is the wrong discussion, because most schools have already came to the conclusion of that discussion. The article states that the discussion it should be having is what place technology has in the classroom.
- In other words, in what way do we use technology? The article discusses that students need to learn more than the basic skills of exploring websites because technology is much more than that now.
- If technology has become an ever-present constant in our lives, then surely one of the most important things that schools must do is teach students how to use it effectively and meaningfully? The article stressed the importance of teaching students how to navigate technology because otherwise they may be abandoned in a world that is way ahead of them.
- So why shouldn’t we teach them about using technology safely and effectively?
I agree with the opinions of the article. Many people today are still debating whether or not technology has a place in school, but I agree that technology already does. I also agree that it is extremely important to teach students how to properly navigate technology because it will be such a large part of their lives eventually with how quickly technology is growing.
